The first BFES Gazette, 1947, records a school at Fallingbostel, with 21 pupils and 1 teacher.

It may be the same school that is recorded in the "Coronation List" (1952) also in Fallingbostel.

In earlier years, a school called BFES Fallingbostel was (we believe) situated in Wessex Barracks.

Shackleton was initially a 'first school', one of two which fed Heide Middle School.  It later a primary school, eventually closing in 2015.
