Date and venue have changed since the previous notice; the Oxford college we were booked with cancelled the arrangement.
Your committee has agreed instead that we travel to The Abbey Hotel, Malvern. Committee members Bill & Janet Bowen have visited and arrangement are now finalised.
The hotel is in a beautiful setting, at the foot of the Malvern Hills immediately adjacent to the Priory Church and the Malvern Festival Theatre buildings.
Likely cost for the three-course meal with tea, coffee & mints is expected to be about £35 per head.
Bill and Janet recommend the venue for its ambience and atmosphere. They note that as well as wonderful walks up the hills, other local attractions include The Elgar Birthplace Museum, The Morgan Sports Car Works (tours can be arranged) and Worcester City with its lofty Cathedral and nearby County Cricket Ground.
Malvern is well-situated, just a 15 minute drive from Junction 7 of the M5. It would make an excellent centre for a weekend away. Accomodation could be booked at the hotel, with a possible discount for members but there are plenty of other nearby hotels, ranging from Premier Inns, to The Malvern Spa, The Bank House (once the family home of novelist Alistair Maclean), and the Cottage in the Woods (often used by Margaret and Denis Thatcher).
