Planning civilian evacuation from British-occupied Germany, 1946-55, Journal of Contemporary History (July 2022).
Using the remarkable case study of Operation Chivalrous, the first plan devised for the evacuation of British military families from early Cold War Germany, this article asks what evacuation can tell us about the relationship between states and citizens in the immediate aftermath of the Second World War – and the historical value of studying plans that were never used.

Reuniting British Military Families in Cold War Germany, Contemporary European History (October 2022)
Part of a wider article ‘special issue’ on families in twenieth-century Europe, this article examines ‘family reunion’ in the immediate post-Second World War period, using military families in Germany again as its main case study. It explores the choices made by military families and their experiences in post-war Germany, engaging as well with existing research in this area.
