Notes Tel-el-Kebir school is first mentioned in the "Coronation List". This is a schedule of schools that existed in 1952. The exact location of the schools and when they opened/closed are not known. The pin only shows the location of what might have been a military camp. |
The Garrison of Tel el Kebir contained some 13,000 troops and consisted of a Base Ordnance Depot , Base Vehicle Depot, Base Workshops, Military Hospital, RMP unit with dog handlers and SIB, and with 19 Infantry Brigade and a Perimeter Defence Coy to protect it all. The whole base had a 17 mile perimeter, wired and mined, with look- out posts and searchlights at intervals along the whole perimeter to protect it from thieves based in the local villages.
The map shows a section of the British Canal Zone.
