Notes

Hastenbeck was amalgamated with Hameln School to become Weser in 1999/2000 (at the Hameln site).

However, the school remained open for a further year as temporary accommodation for Weser's KS2 pupils while the Hameln site was modified to take the increased numbers.

It appears that a lot of material was recycled from the school following its closure.

The school burnt down in 2013

An image from a local newspaper who reports..........

"The former British school in Hastenbeck is ablaze (Wednesday, 4:50pm).
Meter-high flames are blazing from the windows and roof. A huge black column of smoke is above the building, moving in the direction of Bückeberg.
The police have cleared the area, are making loudspeaker announcements and are issuing warnings on the radio. Residents are to keep their doors and windows closed.
A measuring vehicle from the district fire brigade is on site, and the fire brigade is in full-scale operation.
According to the police and fire brigade, there is no danger to the population.
In the evening (8:15 pm) work began to demolish the burning building.
The Technical Relief Agency from Hameln is supporting the fire brigade and is illuminating the scene of the fire."

The site of the school is clearly visible.

Website contributor, Lynne Copping, recently visited Hastenbeck (Summer 2024) and took this picture of the former MQs in the village.
