Saturday 20 April, 2024
This event was held on Saturday 20th April 2024 at 'The MacDonald Gallery', Gurkha Museum, Winchester.
This traditional BFES-SCE event was enjoyed by 28 members and guests surrounded by paintings and panels in the dining room of Winchester's Gurkha Museum. Bahinder, the gracious Nepalese cook prepares the curries and condiments at home and your correspondent rates them most highly. The biggest thanks goes to Jane Tull, committee member, who manages all the liaison with the Ghurka Museum, collates the bookings and prepares printed menus and name badges. Thank you also to Christine and Hugh (membership), whose 'who's been where' aide memoire of those attending gives easy conversation starters and connections.
The corporate memory of members present counted at least 15 of these annual (sometimes less than annual) lunches and this, the committee had already agreed, would be the last for the time being. Room-hire costs at the museum have been creeping upwards and we would need to attract more booking-members in order to avoid a drain on our finances.
For 2025, we would like to head north (from Winchester, not necessarily to 'the north') and try to find a suitable venue nearer to home for members who don't live in the south of England. Leicester and Peterborough were both mentioned, but we are open to ideas for a suitable venue, with or without a military connection. Put your thinking caps on!
Details of the event were published in the January Newsletter.
