Obituary: Denis Turner

4th June 2025

Denis Turner died on the 4th June 2025, and will be sadly missed by his wife and family. He worked in Malysia, Malta and Germany before returning to the UK.

Denis was a creative and inspiring leader, who joined SCEA to work at Seaview School in Malacca, Malysia between 1964 and1967.  He then went on to become the Head at St Andrew's School in Malta where he was much thought of as a supportive and energetic leader of staff and children.  He worked in Malta from 1974 until the school closed in 1978 after the agreement with the Maltese government came to an end.  Denis then moved with his family to Germany and became a BFES Advisor based in Dusseldorf. Later, he moved back to UK, again working as a much admired Advisor. It was said, that if a school had a problem, then Denis was the one to send in to find the solution with authority tempered with kindness. He also became Chief Examiner for English at KS2, demonstrating his love for literature, especially poetry, and of course, his drive to support excellence in the education of young children.   He will be fondly remembered by the many who were influenced by his leadership and his great sense of comrardship, linked to a gentle, but keen sense of humour.
