Trevor Ricketts
February 2024Trevor Ricketts taught at Tal Handaq in Malta and was a stalwart of SCADS and produced many of the wonderful musicals performed by teachers and families. Trevor died suddenly following a stroke in February this year.
Nigel Granfield
2023Nigel Grandfield died as a result of Parkinson’s disease. This was an awful trial for an athletic man who played wicket for the Hong Kong national team. Nigel had worked in Cyprus, Gun Club Primary and St Andrew’s school, Hong Kong.
We have also been informed of the death of BFES Association member Judith Richardson. Judith joined the Association in 1998 and lived in Preston.
Judith Richardson (née Parker) taught in the QE2 Coronation School in Libya from 1967-68; Wavell Primary School in Hohne from 1968-70, and finally Berengaria Infants in Limassol, Cyprus from 1970-74. She lived in Preston, Lancashire.

Mary Ronald
2015Mary Ronald (née Shephard) sadly died in Caythorpe, Lincolnshire, on February 18th, aged 80 years.
David was Head of King’s School, Gutersloh from 1965-1972.
Freda Rose
2015Freda Rose sadly died after a long illness. Freda (and husband Fred who survives her) served with BFES in Osnabrück and Gütersloh between 1966 and 1972. Freda was later headteacher of Renhold Lower School in Bedford from 1974 to 1987.
With great sorrow the Association learnt of the death of Fred Rose in September 2019. Fred celebrated his 96th birthday in great style at the Officers’ Mess in Mansergh Barracks during the Association visit to Germany in 2018.
Alan Rowlands
2015Alan taught in Munsterlager 1964-1966; Wavell 1966-1971, Heildesham 1972-1978’ Buckeburg 1978-1080; Fleming School, Enger 1980-1985 where he was Headteacher.
Bettine Rudd
2015Bettine Rudd has sadly died. Bettine, who retired to Devon, taught in Oldenburg (1949-50), Buckeburg (1950-52), Delmenhost (1952 – 56).
