Notes

A school first appeared in 1929 using an old Royal Marine barracks.

In 1952 school is recorded in the "Coronation List" as R.N. School, Malta......we believe this became Verdala.

The education of children of service personnel in Malta has records dating back 170 years, including those of classrooms at Verdala barracks, but Verdala school itself first appeared in 1929 using an old Royal Marine barracks and ex-prisoner-of-war camp at Cottonera as the school buildings to cater for the growing numbers of 'Dockyard' children requiring education who had outgrown their Senglea buildings. Verdala has always been connected to Tal Handaq School, providing one all-aged RN school until about 1954 when the schools split into primary and secondary schools. Verdala school closed in 1977 as part of the withdraw of forces from the island but the name carries on as the Verdala International School, now sited in the old Pembroke Barracks area.
